Exciting Times: Moving, Building and Growing

Since joining InRhythm as the COO last year, I have watched the company grow and mature at an exponential pace. At InRhythm, we are the fastest growing modern product design & engineering firm across New York City, with a mission to drive growth and innovation across our clients.  In the last year, we’ve added amazing talent to our team in order to bring critical products to market with high velocity.

We are focused on thought-leadership in modern practice areas of UX, Agile, Engineering and DevOps.

As we grow at InRhythm, we are very excited about about creating and cultivating a culture that is driven by the passions of our teams.  As a result, we have a practice leadership team that meets weekly and is working very hard to make sure that we create a company that is driven based on learning and growth opportunities for our teams, giving everyone a chance to have a strong voice in the direction of the company and creating mentorship and leadership opportunities for our teams along the way.

In order to enable this growth and learning across the teams, we recently moved our NYC office HQ from midtown, around Penn Station to the Financial District. We did this for many reasons, but the biggest deciding factor was to create an innovation center where we can have trainings, meetups, panels, and other events for clients and employees to take advantage of our thought-leadership put to use.

On to bigger and better space and our brand new exciting Innovation Center to be built!

Engineering Driven Culture – InRhythm’s Code Lounge

[huge_it_slider id=”3″]

Last week, driven by the feedback from our engineering leadership team, we held InRhythm U’s first-ever Code Lounge, inviting everyone from across the company and a few external guests to learn new skills, brush up on existing ones, or just get help on a personal project.

Code Lounge featured technical “stations” for Angular, React, React Native, Express, Vue, Node.js, Java, QA, UX and Product, each led by an InRhythm senior developer instructor. Accompanied by food and drinks on the company, the event provided an easy atmosphere and low-key way for everyone to network and learn a thing or two!

Here are a few key takeaways and learnings from Code Lounge:

  1. To understand what is important to our engineers, we need to be constantly listening to and engaging with our teams. While Vue and Java were not on our list of station offerings originally, in putting the event together we quickly found out that they are in high demand. Luckily, we were able to add both of these to our agenda, thanks to our very talented engineers who were able to lead these discussions.
  2. Collaboration happens when culture is driven from bottom up, not top down. Our engineers and UX/product leads single-handedly drove Code Lounge, with management simply enabling from the background with budget and logistics support. The magic of the night was the true collaboration seen across the stations, individuals coming prepared with best practices in their domains to share without being asked, and amazing learning and teaching happening in tandem across the room.
  3. Angular seemed to be the least popular station at the event, perhaps because a large part of our team is already fluent in Angular or perhaps due to newer technologies featured, such as Vue and React – these were the most popular and buzzed-about tables.
  4. We love learning and development at InRhythm, but admittedly beer on tap, Lombardi’s pizza, pool and music make it even better.

At InRhythm, our goal is to give our people the best opportunities for learning and growth. This goal is something I feel very passionate about as do all our senior leaders across the organization. Code Lounge is just one example of how we keep our company culture and ourselves at the top of our game!  If you want to find out more, visit us at www.inrhythm.com.

Why You Should Attend Tech Day Next Year

http://blog.inrhythm.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Techday.mp4

Yesterday, InRhythm Team attended the largest single-day startup event in the world. Tech Day has been going on for 3 year with 450 startup exhibitors this year, nearly 1,000 open jobs represented, more than 10,000 attendees, and over $20 billion in capital represented. Startups to large companies all attend. Here is a quick video of the event and what we learned by being there:

  1. While Tech day is crazy with the amount of companies represented and the talent, it’s is a great branding opportunity for your company.
  2. It’s crawling with talent, so jump on that train!  There are many talented tech engineers eager for an opportunity to join the perfect company. This is a great opportunity to meet with talent first hand, in large crowds and make a mark, as well as vet people easily.
  3. Be ready to stand out –  Since there are so many companies at Tech Day, if you do get a booth as a company, make sure you have what it takes to stand out.  Great swag gifts go a long way, a challenge goes even a longer way and if you can find something interesting for people to take a picture of your booth to share on social media, it is even better.
